In 1524, the rector and chaplain Juan Piñeiro donated a house on Rúa da Troia to the parish, where the bells were already installed, suggesting that the house functioned as a bell tower. Over time, a tower was built on that site, giving rise to the current bell tower.
A local tradition, with a humorous tone, maintains that the “lazy” priest placed the bell tower next to his house so he could ring the bells from his bed, reinforcing the personal link between the priest and the tower’s location.
